Q. I am currently based out in the Far East and have decided to sell my buy to let investment. Trouble is it’s difficult for me to get back to the UK to deal with the formalities like placing it on the market and once sold, executing all the documentation via the solicitor. Can this be done without me having to physically return?
A. I understand your dilemma but you have no need to be concerned. Selling a property on behalf of an over sea’s Vendor is a regular occurrence for most Estate Agents and Solicitors. Email correspondence is very useful and effective when relaying information back and forth between the UK and other countries and a very speedy option to get the job done with the minimum amount of delay. Appointing a trustworthy Agent and solicitor is the key to any property disposal so it’s imperative that you get this right. Once the Agent is appointed if you don’t have a solicitor yourself your agent would always be able to recommend an efficient local solicitor, in fact using their recommendation would be very useful especially as you are over seas. With regards to signing the contract you can either give the solicitor power of attorney or get the signed paperwork couriered back and forth – your choice.
